If you’re thinking about swapping a cozy night at home (hot cocoa and celebratory cookies, anyone?) for an exciting getaway, this list is for you. I’m sharing some of my favorite New Year’s Eve destinations in America. They’re perfect for counting down, celebrating, and kicking off the new year in style.

15 Best New Year’s Destinations in USA: Celebrate in Style

The best part about celebrating New Year’s Eve in the U.S.? You can choose any vibe you want once December 31 rolls around. Fancy dinner and a show? All-out glamour at New Year’s Eve balls? A fun street party under fireworks? There’s truly something for everyone.

To help you find your perfect spot, I’m sharing some of the best places across the country to ring in the new year. I’ve also added a few classic NYE traditions we love in the U.S. that you can try for yourself! You may even find a new favorite that’s not already part of your current routine.

What Are Some New Year’s Traditions in USA?

The U.S. has some pretty iconic (and honestly, really fun) New Year’s traditions. And they can look a little different depending on where you celebrate. They might seem quirky at first, but they’re all part of the charm!

Some popular New Year’s traditions include:

  • Counting down to midnight
  • Watching the Times Square Ball Drop in NYC
  • A champagne toast at midnight
  • Fireworks
  • Singing “Auld Lang Syne”
  • Eating black-eyed peas, collard greens, and cornbread for good luck and prosperity (a big one in the South)
  • No cleaning or laundry on New Year’s Day
  • Opening doors or windows at midnight to “let the old year out”
  • Making New Year’s resolutions
  • Kissing someone at midnight
  • Wearing glitter, sequins, and anything metallic

Whether you love low-key celebrations or full-glam sparkle, there’s a tradition for every style.

Where to Go in the US for New Years

Orlando, Florida

Celebrating New Year’s Eve in Orlando feels like stepping into pure, over-the-top family-friendly fun. Disney World goes all out with its annual New Year’s Eve celebrations. Expect special fireworks at Magic Kingdom and EPCOT, dance parties in the parks, and exclusive dining events.

If you want to celebrate outside the parks, head to ICON Park’s party on International Drive or plan a sunset dinner at Disney Springs. Just expect crowds—like, serious crowds—and make sure to arrive early. If you can, I definitely recommend reserving anything you want to do in advance.

For places to stay, Disney resorts make transportation a breeze. Nearby hotels along I-Drive with shuttle service are a great option, too. Warm weather, palm trees, and fireworks every night make Orlando a magical way to welcome the new year.

Las Vegas, Nevada

New Year’s Eve in Las Vegas is pure adrenaline. The Strip closes to traffic and turns into one giant street party with DJs, pop-up bars, and flying confetti. At midnight, casinos launch synchronized rooftop fireworks that light up the entire valley. It’s honestly so breathtaking.

Inside, you’ll find themed parties, celebrity performances, and extravagant dinners. Over in Fremont Street, a live music countdown takes over the LED canopy for a different (but equally fun) vibe.

Staying on the Strip is the easiest option. I recommend The Cosmopolitan, Bellagio, or The Venetian for amazing views of the fireworks. And if you want something extra elevated? Reserve a table at a rooftop lounge. It’s glamorous, loud, and completely unforgettable.

Nashville, Tennessee

Nashville is all about music, lights, and a whole lot of Southern Charm. And New Year’s Eve makes it even bigger! The big event, Music City Midnight, brings major artists to the stage. Plus, there’s a giant musical note drop and fireworks over Bicentennial Capitol Mall State Park. The crowd is friendly and festive, and the honky-tonks along Broadway throw their own lively celebrations.

If you’re looking for something more low-key, grab dinner and enjoy live music at The Listening Room. Or head to a rooftop countdown at The Bobby Hotel for a more elevated experience. Definitely book early! Downtown spots like The Omni, Noelle, or JW Marriott will put you steps from the action.

It’s one of those nights where every street feels like a concert, and the city’s soundtrack carries you right into the new year.

New York City, New York

New Year’s Eve in New York City is iconic and electric. Times Square is definitely the big draw where millions gather to watch the ball drop under a blizzard of confetti. You’ll be entertained by live performances and witness the countdown that’s watched worldwide. If you’re planning on Times Square, be ready for tight security and long waits. Arrive early and bundle up!

However, there are so many amazing alternatives to enjoy. Think: fireworks in Central Park, a harbor cruise with skyline views, or rooftop parties in Williamsburg and Midtown. For a more comfortable experience, book a hotel with a view like The Knickerbocker or M Social Times Square so you can watch the magic from indoors.

NYC’s energy on NYE is unbeatable. Every corner buzzes with excitement and possibility as the city welcomes the new year in sparkling style.

Hollywood boasts fancy black-tie hotel parties while rooftop bars in Downtown LA offer skyline views and champagne at midnight. Expect mild weather and plenty of traffic, and of course, plan ahead and grab tickets early.

For a great stay, try The Freehand, The Line, or a beachfront hotel in Santa Monica so you can wake up to a New Year’s Day sunrise over the ocean. LA delivers a cool, stylish start to the year with palm trees, city lights, and endless ways to celebrate.

Miami, Florida

Looking for a tropical celebration? Head on over to Miami this New Year’s Eve! Downtown’s Bayfront Park throws one of the biggest parties in the Southeast. But it isn’t complete without the iconic Big Orange drop, live music, and waterfront fireworks at midnight. On South Beach, clubs turn into glitter-filled dance marathons and luxury hotels host rooftop countdowns with ocean views.

Expect warm weather, late-night energy, and crowds that truly know how to party. Be sure to book restaurant reservations and event tickets early. For a luxe stay, check out the Fontainebleau, The Edition, or a boutique hotel in South Beach.

Miami on NYE is all palm trees, champagne, and that electric feeling of starting the year with ocean views.

New Orleans, Louisiana

Looking for an epic New Year’s Eve party? Look no further than New Orleans! It’s lively, soulful, and effortlessly fun. The main celebration takes over Jackson Square, where a giant fleur-de-lis drops at midnight, and fireworks illuminate the Mississippi River. Bourbon Street turns into a party soundtrack of brass bands, balcony celebrations, and spontaneous parades that go late into the night.

For something more romantic, book a riverboat cruise with dinner and a front-row view of the fireworks. Expect festive crowds, incredible food everywhere (you can’t miss the beignets!), and live music literally on every corner.

Stay in the French Quarter for easy walking—Hotel Monteleone and The Roosevelt are classics. New Orleans brings that perfect mix of history, culture, and celebration to ring in the new year.

Chicago, Illinois

Spending NYE in Chicago feels like a true winter wonderland, often with a little snow that makes the city glow. The Millennium Park Christmas tree is usually still up, and the lights along Michigan Avenue give everything that festive sparkle.

Celebrate with fireworks over Lake Michigan, or book a river cruise for amazing skyline views at midnight. Navy Pier is another great option with indoor parties and outdoor displays. It’s perfect if you want to enjoy the night and admire the city’s atmosphere without freezing.

You’ll definitely want to bundle up (Chicago does not play in December). Cozy hotel lounges and speakeasy bars make it easy to warm up between celebrations. For a central stay, check out The Langham or LondonHouse for gorgeous rooftop views.

Denver, Colorado

Craving a lively, scenic, and perfect atmosphere with a fresh coat of snow? Then Denver is the place for your New Year’s Eve celebration. The 16th Street Mall hosts two fireworks shows, and downtown bars throw craft beer countdown parties with that laid-back Colorado energy.

If you’re hoping to turn it into a ski trip, stay in a nearby mountain resort in Breckenridge, Keystone, or Vail. They’re all within a couple of hours of the city and known for NYE torchlight parades on the slopes. Expect crisp winter air, cozy restaurants, and plenty of outdoor adventure.

For a central stay in the city, check out The Maven or The Crawford at Union Station. Denver is one of those rare NYE destinations where you can celebrate at midnight and hit the mountains first thing in the morning.

San Francisco, California

San Francisco offers a major waterfront fireworks show that illuminates the Embarcadero near the Ferry Building on New Year’s Eve. It reflects over the bay with breathtaking views of the Bay Bridge. It truly is iconic (and memorable) as it sounds!

Want something extra special? Book an NYE cruise with dinner, dancing, and front-row fireworks. Or celebrate at a rooftop lounge in SoMa or Nob Hill. For a great place to stay, try The Fairmont or a boutique hotel near Union Square.

The best thing about celebrating on the West Coast? Temperatures stay mild. But you’ll definitely still want to bring some layers; those bay winds get chilly after dark.

Savannah, Georgia

Picturing a New Year’s Eve celebration dripping in Southern magic and cozy charm? Then Savannah, Georgia, might be the destination for you. The Savannah Riverfront hosts NYE fireworks at midnight with live music, rooftop bars, and cobblestone streets glowing under twinkling lights.

Stay in the Historic District at The Marshall House or Perry Lane Hotel for walkability and beautiful views. Savannah’s mix of history, hospitality, and waterfront celebration makes NYE feel elegant, intimate, and, honestly, unforgettable.

After the show, wander Rainey Street or catch late-night sets at iconic venues like Antone’s.

Charleston, South Carolina

New Year’s Eve in Charleston feels elegant, coastal, and like straight out of a Hallmark movie. You can’t help but enjoy its historic charm wrapped in twinkling holiday lights. Fireworks over Folly Beach and Isle of Palms create a romantic backdrop for midnight.

Expect mild weather and a refined, relaxed vibe. For easy access to the festivities, stay in the Historic District at The Dewberry or French Quarter Inn.

With Southern hospitality, rich history, and seaside celebration all in one place, Charleston makes NYE feel classic and completely magical.

Asheville, North Carolina

An Asheville NYE is cozy, creative, and full of mountain magic. The city doesn’t put on a huge fireworks show, but it has so much more to offer.

Instead, you’ll find brewery parties, farm-to-table dinners, and live music tucked into historic venues downtown. Many hotels and restaurants even offer special NYE menus for a flavorful experience. And, fortunately, historic Biltmore Village still glows with holiday lights well into January.
