If there’s one thing Indianapolis does not lack, it’s good pizza. One of my favorite things about the local pizza scene is just how much variety we have! You can find everything from tavern style pizza and crispy Detroit style squares to wood-fired pies made with handmade dough, you name it. Whatever kind of pizza you’re craving, there’s a pretty good chance you can find it somewhere in Indy. Trust me, I’ve eaten my way through a lot of it.
I’ve lived in the Indianapolis area pretty much my entire life, and exploring the city’s restaurants is actually a big part of what inspired me to start this site in the first place. After college, I started seeking out new restaurants, neighborhoods, and things to do around my city, and more than ten years later, I’m still doing exactly that. I’ve eaten at hundreds of Indianapolis restaurants over the years and have tried and extensively researched the best pizza spots around Indy so that you don’t have to!
Because with SO many options, figuring out which ones are actually worth adding to your list can quickly turn into a rabbit hole of menus, reviews, and recommendations. I’ve narrowed it down to the places that really stand out, whether you’re craving a casual slice, a longtime local favorite, or something completely different from your usual pizza night. So, after plenty of research and a lot of pizza, these are my picks for the best pizza in Indianapolis.
Also, if you’re planning a whole food-filled weekend in Indy, don’t miss my guide to the Best Restaurants in Indianapolis for even more of my favorite local spots.
10 Best Pizza In Indianapolis
There’s no single type of pizza that defines Indianapolis, which is honestly part of what makes the local scene so much fun. These are the top pizza places I’d recommend putting on your list!
Goodfellas Pizzeria
If I’m craving New York style pizza in Indianapolis, Goodfellas is one of my go-tos, especially if I’m already spending an evening on Mass Ave. My husband and I somehow always seem to end up here after a night downtown when the “we need pizza” craving hits, and honestly at this point it’s become a bit of a tradition.
Goodfellas serves those oversized, foldable New York style slices along with whole pies, but we almost always order by the slice. I don’t even have a favorite because half the fun is walking up to the counter, seeing all the different slices in front of you, and just picking whatever looks best in the moment. We’ve also been known to grab an extra slice or two to take home for later because why not?
I feel like I can make a pretty fair comparison here because I’ve eaten my fair share of pizza in New York City, and I genuinely think Goodfellas gives some of those NYC pizza spots a run for their money. If you do want a whole pizza instead of slices, I’d recommend calling ahead so you aren’t waiting around for it.
But one of my favorite things about the Mass Ave location is actually what’s hiding in the back. Wiseguy Lounge is a speakeasy-style cocktail bar with some seriously good cocktails and an impressive bourbon selection, and whenever we have friends visiting from out of town, this is one of the places we love to take them. You can grab a giant slice and then head into the lounge for cocktails, or do what we often do and make Goodfellas your late-night pizza stop after spending the evening around Mass Ave.
There’s also a Goodfellas in Broad Ripple, so you have another option if you’re spending the evening on the north side and need a slice after a night out.
- Best For: New York-style pizza, pizza by the slice, late-night pizza, Mass Ave nights out
- My Recommendation: Pick whatever slice looks best that day, and grab an extra for later!
- Locations:
- Mass Ave: 545 Massachusetts Ave, Indianapolis, IN 46204
- Broad Ripple: 914 Broad Ripple Ave, Indianapolis, IN 46220

Jockamo Upper Crust Pizza
If you know me, you know I’m always going to pick the pizza with the most interesting toppings on the menu, so Jockamo is right up my alley. They have a huge selection of specialty pizzas with all kinds of creative combinations, and since a simple pepperoni pizza usually just doesn’t do it for me, this is exactly the kind of pizza place I love.
The crust here is thin and crispy, so even with all those toppings it doesn’t feel overly heavy, and my absolute favorite is the Thai pizza. You can order it with chicken or shrimp, but the peanut sauce is what completely makes it for me. It was a total gamechanger the first time I tried it and, to be honest, this has become one of my favorite pizzas I’ve ever had! There are SO many different specialty pizzas on the menu that this is definitely somewhere I’d encourage you to step outside your usual order and try something different. If you’re like me and think the toppings are half the fun when it comes to pizza, you’ll have plenty to choose from here.
The original Jockamo is in Irvington, which is such a fun neighborhood to explore while you’re there, but I typically visit the Lawrence location. Both are good options depending on which side of Indianapolis you’re on!
- Best For: Specialty pizzas, creative toppings, thin and crispy crust, families and casual pizza nights
- My Recommendation: Thai Pizza with chicken or shrimp
- Locations:
- Irvington: 5646 E Washington St, Indianapolis, IN 46219
- Lawrence: 9165 Otis Ave, Indianapolis, IN 46216

Bazbeaux
Bazbeaux is basically an Indianapolis pizza institution at this point, and if you ask around for the best pizza in the city, there’s a pretty good chance someone is going to bring it up. They’ve been serving pizza in Indy since 1986, starting in Broad Ripple, and while there are now a few locations around the area, I usually end up at the Mass Ave location downtown.
This is another spot I love for thin crust pizza with more creative toppings, because as I mentioned, that’s always going to win me over! You can completely build your own pizza here, but the specialty menu is huge and has everything from pretty classic combinations to toppings like Cajun shrimp, andouille sausage, ricotta, avocado, pesto, goat cheese and more. Basically, if you’re someone who likes to spend way too long studying the pizza menu before deciding what to order, welcome to the club.
My personal favorite is the Roma, which comes topped with prosciutto, black olives, green peppers and ricotta. Ricotta is one of my FAVORITE cheeses to put on pizza, so naturally this one has my name all over it. The Tchoupitoulas is another great choice if you want something a little more unique, with Cajun shrimp, andouille sausage, peppers, red onion and garlic.
I especially like the Mass Ave location when I’m downtown with a group because it’s such an easy casual dinner to work into a night of exploring the neighborhood. Grab a pizza, wander around Mass Ave, then head somewhere nearby for drinks or dessert after! Or if you’re spending time farther north, the Broad Ripple location is another great option.
- Best For: Thin crust pizza, creative toppings, groups, casual dinner on Mass Ave
- My Recommendation: The Roma or Tchoupitoulas
- Locations:
- Mass Ave: 329 Massachusetts Ave, Indianapolis, IN 46204
- Broad Ripple: 811 E Westfield Blvd, Indianapolis, IN 46220

King Dough
As the name suggests, the crust at King Dough might just reign supreme in Indy! This is one of my favorite spots when I want to actually sit down and make a dinner out of pizza, and the location in the Holy Cross neighborhood (just outside of downtown and not far from the Bottleworks District and Mass Ave) has such a nice neighborhood feel.
King Dough specializes in Neapolita- style pizza baked in a brick oven, and the open kitchen means you can actually watch the pizzas being made while you’re there. The crust is SO good, with that slightly charred outside and chewy texture you want from this style of pizza, and then they load it up with some pretty creative combinations.
Our go-to is the C.B.R., aka Chicken Bacon Ranch, and this is definitely not your average chicken bacon ranch pizza. It’s topped with Smoking Goose applewood bacon, chicken, red onion, mozzarella, cheddar and ranch, and while it’s definitely on the richer side, everything works so well together. We’ve tried plenty of the pizzas here over the years, but somehow always seem to come back to this one!
I also really like King Dough when the weather is nice because the patio has plenty of outdoor seating and a firepit, so it’s the kind of place where you can hang out for a while rather than just eat your pizza and leave. They have a full bar too, and we’ll usually pair our pizza with a Negroni or Aperol Spritz, which are basically iconic pizza pairings in my book. And when we’re skipping alcohol, their N.A. Aperol Spritz is really good too, plus they have quite a few other mocktails to choose from.
- Best For: Neapolitan style pizza, brick oven pizza, date night, patio dining
- My Recommendation: C.B.R. + a Negroni or Aperol Spritz
- Address: 452 N Highland Ave, Indianapolis, IN 46202

Sam’s Square Pie
If you’re a Detroit style pizza fan, Sam’s Square Pie absolutely deserves a spot on your Indianapolis pizza list. And even if you’re not, hear me out because Detroit style usually isn’t my first choice either, but Sam’s won me over!
Sam’s also has such a cool Indianapolis origin story. The owner started making pizzas during COVID and built up a following around the city before eventually opening a restaurant on the Near Eastside near 10th and Rural. They specialize in Detroit style pizza along with Grandma-style pies, so as you can probably guess from the name, we’re talking thick, square slices here.
What surprised me most was the crust. Detroit style can sometimes feel a little heavy for me, but Sam’s is lighter and airier than I expected while still having those crispy edges that are arguably the best part of this style of pizza. Even as someone who will usually choose a thin crust or New York style pizza first, I thought this was really, really good.
We tried the Stickly Icky, which takes what could have been a pretty standard pepperoni pizza and makes it SO much better with vodka sauce and pesto. You get that crispy, airy Detroit-style crust with the pepperoni and then all that extra flavor from the sauces, and it’s such a good combination.
So if you’ve already decided you’re “not a Detroit-style pizza person,” I’d still give Sam’s a try. I apparently needed a really good one to remind me that maybe I shouldn’t write off an entire style of pizza!
- Best For: Detroit style pizza, Grandma-style pizza, crispy edges, something different from your usual pizza night
- My Recommendation: Stickly Icky
- Address: 2829 E 10th St, Indianapolis, IN 46201

Futuro
Futuro is a great Indianapolis pizza spot when you want something a little different, especially because they serve both Detroit style and tavern style pizza. So whether you want thick with those crispy edges or thin and crunchy, you can find both here! And of course, I’m going straight for the specialty menu. Futuro has plenty of creative topping combinations, so definitely take a look before automatically ordering your usual cheese or pepperoni.
It’s also a great stop after spending a few hours antique shopping at Midland Arts & Antiques Market nearby, which is genuinely one of my favorite ways to spend a day in Indy. I could wander around Midland looking through vintage furniture, decor and random finds for HOURS, then head over to Futuro for pizza after!
- Best For: Detroit style pizza, tavern-style pizza, creative toppings, antique shopping day
- My Recommendation: Pick one of the specialty pizzas in whichever crust style you’re craving
- Address: 19 Cruse St, Indianapolis, IN 46202
Puccini’s
Puccini’s is one of those Indianapolis pizza places that can be easy to overlook because there are several locations around town, but it’s been a local go-to for years and has some seriously good specialty pizzas. This is another spot where I’m definitely skipping the basic pepperoni and ordering something a little more interesting!
My personal favorite location is Geist, especially during the summer. If we’ve spent the day out boating on Geist Reservoir, stopping at Puccini’s for dinner afterward is one of my favorite ways to end the day, and it makes for SUCH a good summer day in Indy.
As for the pizza, the Campfire is one of my favorites with smoked sausage and sweet onion marmalade, which gives it this really good sweet and savory combination. I also love the Shrimp Santori with shrimp and sesame chili oil for a little extra kick. Both are exactly the kind of creative pizzas that keep me from ever wanting to order something basic here!
- Best For: Specialty pizzas, families, casual pizza nights, dinner after a day on Geist Reservoir
- My Recommendation: The Campfire or Shrimp Santori
- Locations:
- Geist: 11695 Fall Creek Rd, Indianapolis, IN 46256
- Clearwater: 3944 E 82nd St, Indianapolis, IN 46240
- Greenbriar: 1508 W 86th St, Indianapolis, IN 46260
- Sunnyside: 7829 Sunnyside Rd Ste Q, Indianapolis, IN 46236

Brozinni Pizzeria
Brozinni is another spot to add to your list when you’re craving New York-style pizza, and the Speedway location is especially fun during the Month of May. If you’ve never experienced Speedway around the Indy 500, the entire area comes alive with race fans, and Brozinni is such an easy casual stop before or after spending time around the Indianapolis Motor Speedway.
Of course, you definitely don’t have to wait until May to go! Brozinni serves those big New York style slices that are perfect when you want something quick and casual on the west side. And don’t stop at the pizza. The garlic knuckles are absolutely worth adding to the table, especially if you’re hungry, and save a little room for the New York style cheesecake too!
- Best For: New York-style pizza, pizza by the slice, families, Indy 500 weekend
- My Recommendation: A New York-style slice + garlic knuckles + cheesecake
- Speedway: 1067 N Main St, Speedway, IN 46224
- South-side: 8810 S Emerson Ave #240, Indianapolis, IN 46237
Diavola
If you want pizza night to feel a little more like a date night, Diavola is a great pick. Located in SoBro, this cozy Italian spot specializes in Neapolitan style pizza, with those smaller, bubbly crust pizzas that are perfect for ordering a couple and trying different toppings.
This is definitely more of a sit-down dinner spot than a quick slice kind of place, which is part of why I like it for date night or dinner with friends. The pizzas really let the crust and toppings shine, and the whole atmosphere feels a little more elevated while still being casual enough for an easy pizza night. Plus, you’re right in SoBro, so it’s easy to grab drinks nearby before or after and make a whole night out of it!
- Best For: Neapolitan style pizza, date night, dinner with friends, a sit-down pizza dinner
- My Recommendation: Order a couple of pizzas for the table so you can try more than one
- Address: 1134 E 54th St, Indianapolis, IN 46220
Greek’s Pizzeria
Greek’s is probably the pizza place on this list that I’ve been going to the longest, and it’s still one of my reliable go-tos when I just want to order a good pizza for carryout and head home. There are several locations around Indianapolis, and while they each have a slightly different neighborhood feel, the pizza has always been consistently good.
In fact, Greek’s has become a bit of a Thanksgiving Eve tradition for us! We’re usually busy prepping everything for Thanksgiving the next day, so picking up a few pizzas for a quick dinner is super convenient, everyone is happy, and there’s one less thing to worry about cooking.
I usually order the Roma, which keeps things a little simpler, but if I want to switch it up, the Grilled Chicken Fajita is another favorite with a little more flavor and spice. They also have a pretty big selection of specialty pizzas, so there’s plenty to choose from depending on what everyone is craving.
Greek’s isn’t necessarily where I’m going when I want to make an entire night out of dinner, but that’s kind of why I like having it on this list. Sometimes you just want to pick up a pizza you know is going to be good, take it home and call it a night!
- Best For: Carryout, families, feeding a group, easy weeknight dinners
- My Recommendation: The Roma or Grilled Chicken Fajita
- Locations:
- Geist: 11725 Fox Rd, Indianapolis, IN 46236
- Binford: 5741 E 71st St, Indianapolis, IN 46220
- SoBro: 4901 N College Ave, Indianapolis, IN 46205
- North Central: 9613 N College Ave, Indianapolis, IN 46280
What Kind of Pizza Is Indianapolis Known For?
Unlike some cities that are famous for one specific type of pizza, Indianapolis doesn’t really have a single signature pizza style. And honestly, that’s one of my favorite things about the Indianapolis pizza scene! You can find a little bit of everything here, from New York style and thin, crispy tavern style pizzas to Detroit style pizza, Neapolitan style pizza and plenty of creative specialty pizzas from longtime local favorites.
So when someone asks me where to find the best pizza in Indianapolis, my answer really depends on what kind of pizza they actually like. Want a giant New York-style slice? Head to Goodfellas or Brozinni. Craving those thick, crispy-edged Detroit-style squares? Sam’s Square Pie and Futuro have you covered. For Neapolitan style pizza with a charred crust, King Dough and Diavola are great places to start. And if creative toppings are more your thing, Jockamo and Bazbeaux have some of my favorite combinations.
You also don’t have to stick to one part of the city to find good pizza. Mass Ave and Broad Ripple are especially easy areas to combine pizza with drinks and fun things to do, while neighborhoods like Irvington have standout local pizza places of their own.
And if you’re exploring Indianapolis specifically for the food, pizza is only the beginning! Check out my guide to What Food Is Indianapolis Known For for more local specialties and iconic Indianapolis foods to try while you’re here.
How To Choose The Best Pizza In Indianapolis
With so many great pizza places around Indianapolis, choosing where to eat can honestly be harder than it sounds! The best spot really depends on the kind of pizza you’re craving, where you’ll be in the city, and whether you want a quick slice or an entire night out. Here are a few things I’d consider before deciding where to go.
Choose Your Pizza Style
This is the easiest way to narrow down your options. There’s no point going somewhere known for thick pizza when what you’re really craving is a thin crust! Start by deciding whether you want New York style, Detroit style, Neapolitan style, deep dish, tavern style or something in between, then work backward from there.
Check The Specialty Pizzas
Once you know the style you want, I always recommend checking the specialty pizzas before automatically ordering your usual. This is where some of my favorite Indianapolis pizza places really stand out! Look for interesting topping combinations, house-made sauces and handmade dough or crusts that are unique to that restaurant. I’m MUCH more likely to remember a pizza with an unexpected combination of toppings than another basic pepperoni, so this is usually where I like to experiment.
Consider The Atmosphere And Occasion
Pizza can be anything from a quick slice you grab between downtown activities to a full date night with cocktails or wine, so think about the kind of experience you want too. Goodfellas is perfect when you want a giant slice while you’re already out on Mass Ave, while somewhere like King Dough or Diavola works better when you want to sit down and make dinner part of the night. You can also build pizza into a bigger Indianapolis outing. One of my personal favorites is spending a few hours antique shopping at Midland Arts & Antiques Market before heading to Futuro for pizza afterward!
Look At Location And Pricing
Indianapolis is a pretty spread out city, so location matters more than you might think. If you’re already spending the evening on Mass Ave, there’s really no reason to drive across town for pizza when you have several great options nearby. The same goes for Broad Ripple, Irvington and Indy’s other neighborhoods. I’d especially keep this in mind if you’re visiting Indianapolis and building pizza into a larger itinerary. Pick somewhere near the attractions, bars or neighborhoods you’re already planning to explore rather than spending a big chunk of your evening driving across the city.
Decide Between Dine-In, Carryout Or Pizza By The Slice
Finally, think about how you actually want to eat. Some of my favorite pizza restaurants are places where I’d happily spend an entire evening, while others are my go-tos for an easy carryout dinner. Greek’s is one of my reliable choices when I want to pick up a pizza and head home, while Goodfellas is great when you just want pizza by the slice. If you’re feeding a group, check the menu and pricing ahead of time. A couple of slices can make for a pretty inexpensive meal, while multiple specialty pizzas, appetizers and drinks can turn pizza night into a much bigger dinner.
If there’s one thing I hope you take away from this list, it’s that Indianapolis has a LOT more going on in the pizza department than you might expect! And after eating my way around Indy for years, I’ve learned that I don’t really have one single “best” pizza. Sometimes I want to sit on a patio with a pizza and an Aperol Spritz, sometimes I want a giant slice after a night on Mass Ave, and sometimes I want to pick up Greek’s, put on my pajamas and eat it on the couch. All VERY different pizza moods, all equally valid!
So use this list as a starting point, pick the pizza that sounds best to you and start eating your way around the city. And if you find a spot that you think absolutely deserves a place on this list, send it my way! I’m always willing to conduct a little more pizza “research” in the name of keeping this guide up to date.
