Weekend Getaway at the Downtown Louisville Marriott

Louisville holds such a special place in my heart. Mainly because bourbon does—but also because I was actually on my first trip there when I decided to launch my travel blog! We had the opportunity to return for a little weekend getaway to do some distillery touring, bourbon tasting, and explore all that this lively city has to offer.

I love visiting Louisville because there truly is SO much to do. I’ve visited countless times now, and there is still such a long list of museums, sites, and distilleries I want to check out! Bonus—it’s only about two hours from Indy, making it an easy weekend trip.

Weekend Getaway at the Downtown Louisville Marriott

For this trip, we stayed at the newly renovated Louisville Marriott Downtown, and I am so glad we did! The Louisville Marriott Downtown is located in the heart of the city, making it an ideal spot for exploring. The hotel recently completed a huge renovation, and all that hard work really paid off! The modern, sleek design and top-notch amenities made our stay extra special.

From the moment I walked into the lobby, I was immediately impressed by the open layout and stunning bar area. The tall ceilings allow tons of natural light to flood the space, and the unique, modern furniture makes for a cozy yet stylish atmosphere. Of course, we couldn’t resist grabbing a drink at the fully stocked bourbon bar as soon as we arrived!

One of the highlights of the hotel is its indoor pool—perfect for unwinding after a day of exploring. The Louisville Marriott Downtown is also within walking distance of some of Louisville’s biggest attractions, including 4th Street Live, the Kentucky International Convention Center, the Muhammad Ali Center, and the KFC Yum! Center. If you’re in town for an event, concert, or conference, this hotel is a prime location.

Speaking of bourbon, the next thing you notice (and definitely can’t miss!) is their brand new bourbon cellar. This stunning room can be rented out for private tastings in advance.

The Room Experience

Our room was nothing short of spectacular. We had a spacious and modern suite with a king bed overlooking downtown Louisville. The sleek, contemporary decor carried through from the lobby into the guest rooms, creating a stylish yet cozy vibe. Whether you’re booking for rooms 1 adult adults or adult adults 1 child, you’ll find the space comfortable and well-equipped.

The room featured plush bedding, a large flat-screen TV, a coffee maker stocked with premium coffee, and a spacious work desk for those who may need to catch up on emails. The bathroom was luxurious, complete with a rainfall shower and high-end toiletries. If you’re traveling with family or a larger group, the hotel allows a maximum 8 guests per room, making it a great choice for group getaways. The rooms are designed for comfort, and we had plenty of space for our luggage without feeling cramped.

Another feature we loved was the room service menu, which had an extensive selection of meals available throughout the day. Whether you’re craving a late-night snack or an early morning breakfast before heading out, there’s something for everyone.

Dining at Porch Kitchen + Bar

Our first night in, we dined at Porch Kitchen + Bar, the hotel’s on-site restaurant. Let me tell you—this is not your typical hotel dining experience! With a menu full of Southern-inspired dishes, we were in foodie heaven. We started with hush puppies and fried chicken, both of which were absolutely delicious. And since we were in bourbon country, we had to sample their Old Fashioned and Manhattan—both were expertly crafted!

The atmosphere inside Porch Kitchen + Bar was lively yet intimate, with warm lighting and rustic-chic decor that made it feel both welcoming and upscale. The service was outstanding, with knowledgeable staff who provided great recommendations for both food and drinks.

If you’re staying at the Marriott Downtown, I highly recommend stopping by for breakfast as well. They offer an incredible spread, from fluffy buttermilk pancakes to hearty omelets made to order. And if you’re in the mood for a leisurely brunch, their weekend menu features signature dishes like shrimp and grits and their famous bourbon-glazed French toast.

Exploring Louisville

Saturday was all about bourbon. We toured some of Louisville’s most iconic distilleries, including Old Forester, Angel’s Envy, and Evan Williams for a prohibition-style tasting experience. If you’re a bourbon lover, Louisville is an absolute must-visit destination.

Beyond bourbon, the city has plenty of incredible museums and attractions. We made time to visit the Louisville Slugger Museum, where we got to see how the famous baseball bats are made. This is a must-visit, even if you’re not a huge baseball fan! Another highlight was the Muhammad Ali Center, a museum dedicated to the legendary boxer’s life and legacy.

One of the best things about Louisville is how walkable the downtown area is. We spent time strolling around 4th Street Live, a vibrant entertainment district packed with restaurants, bars, and live music venues. This is the perfect spot to continue with night nights out on the town, whether you’re in the mood for cocktails, dancing, or catching a live band.

You could also make a stop at Big Four Bridge, a pedestrian bridge that connects Louisville to Jeffersonville, Indiana, offering breathtaking views of the Ohio River. It’s a fantastic spot for an afternoon walk or sunset views.

Their brisket and mac & cheese were absolute standouts, and the atmosphere was casual but full of character.

While Porch Kitchen + Bar is a fantastic option, there are plenty of great restaurants within walking distance of the Marriott Downtown. Whether you’re craving elevated Southern cuisine, fresh seafood, or an indulgent steak, here are three standout dining spots nearby:

Brunch in Bed & Departure

To wrap up our perfect weekend, we enjoyed an indulgent brunch in our room. The Downtown Louisville Marriott offers an extensive room service menu, and we went all out with fresh coffee, orange juice, eggs, bacon, sausage, toast, and the absolute star of the morning—lemon-blueberry pancakes. If you’re staying here, you HAVE to try them!

For those catching flights home, the hotel is conveniently located near the international airport, making it an easy and stress-free departure. We had a seamless checkout experience and were on our way home, already planning our next visit to Louisville.

Overall, our weekend in Louisville was an absolute blast. From the Louisville Marriott Downtown’s stunning renovations and prime location to the city’s endless bourbon tastings, museums, and attractions, there was never a dull moment.
