If you know me, you know I’m a sucker for Southern food, and when I heard Tupelo Honey Southern Kitchen & Bar was opening its very first Indiana location in downtown Indianapolis, I was counting down the days. We were lucky enough to attend a special preview of the space before it officially opened to the public, and from that first visit, I could already tell it was going to be one of my new favorite spots!
Since that preview, I’ve already been back multiple times for brunch (including Easter Sunday!) and every single time has left me impressed. The food, drinks, ambiance, and service? All top-tier. If you’re searching for Southern-style comfort food with a modern twist, Tupelo Honey is a must-visit.
Tupelo Honey Southern Kitchen & Bar
Tupelo Honey Southern Kitchen & Bar originally began in Asheville, North Carolina, with a mission to reimagine Southern food by adding bold, creative twists to the classics. They focus on responsibly sourced ingredients, scratch-made dishes, and Southern hospitality that makes you feel instantly welcome.
What makes Tupelo Honey unique is how they stay true to Southern roots while elevating their offerings with modern flavors. Think: fried chicken with sriracha honey sauce, mac-n-cheese waffles, and biscuits so good they deserve their own fan club. They now have locations across the country, but the Indianapolis restaurant marks their first foray into the Midwest, and it’s already a standout.
Tupelo Honey Southern Kitchen & Bar in Indianapolis
Located right in the heart of downtown next to Gainbridge Fieldhouse, Tupelo Honey’s Indianapolis location officially opened in 2023, and it’s been packed with food lovers ever since. The space itself is gorgeous, with a bright, organic-modern design that blends wood, greenery, and warm tones for the ultimate cozy-but-chic vibe. It’s the kind of place where you want to linger over brunch or grab drinks with friends in the evening.
From the moment you walk in, you’re greeted with the smell of fresh biscuits and fried chicken. The energy is warm and inviting, and the whole experience—from service to plating—feels polished but never pretentious.

Tupelo Honey Southern Kitchen & Bar Indianapolis Menu
Tupelo Honey is best known for their award-winning fried chicken, scratch-made brunch dishes, and innovative takes on Southern staples. They offer an impressive range of options, including vegetarian-friendly dishes and a full bar with creative cocktails, wine, and local beer selections.
Before diving into our entrees, we started with some brunch cocktails and small plates. Their Biscuits for a Cause were an instant hit, and not just because they’re delicious. A portion of the proceeds goes to local nonprofit organizations, which makes ordering them an easy “yes.” We also tried the Fried Green Tomatoes and some Blueberry Mimosas, which were equal parts refreshing and Instagram-worthy.
Brunch Entrees We Loved:
- Lemon Garden Party Salad – A light and refreshing choice if you’re not in the mood for something heavy.
- Roast Beef Debris Benedict – A savory, hearty option that brings serious Southern flavor.
- Bone-in Fried Chicken – Perfectly crispy and seasoned to perfection, this is what they’re known for.
- Shrimp & Grits – Creamy, flavorful, and packed with texture.
- Asheville Hot Fried Chicken with Mac-n-Cheese Waffles – My absolute favorite. Sweet, spicy, cheesy—it checks every box.
We ended the meal with some house wine and dessert (because obviously). Every course felt thoughtful and full of flavor. I’m already planning my next visit to try out their dinner menu.
Pro Tip: Make reservations ahead of time, especially on weekends. The buzz is real, and tables go fast.
