Grindstone Public House is a recent addition just off the square in downtown Noblesville. Like the historic building it occupies, Grindstone Public House comes from a family with a history in the restaurant business. Clancy’s Inc., the company behind Grindstone Charley’s, Michaelangelo’s Italian Bistro and Clancy’s Hamburgers, opened the new spot this past summer.
I had the opportunity to stop in for dinner recently to try it out, and it did not disappoint.
They can easily be found at the corner of Logan and 10th, mainly because you can’t miss their large mural wall leading up to the main entrance. The interior definitely gives off a modern, elegant vibe while maintaining the welcoming and inviting feel of a more casual dining spot. There is seating in the bar, a larger dining room and a private dining area upstairs for events.
We started out with drinks, and I was thoroughly impressed with the variety of local beer and spirits they offer. You can build your own flight with beers from different local craft breweries including Metazoa, Fountain Square Brew Co., Sun King, Bier Brewery, Taxman, and more.
They also have an extensive spirits selection, including some from local distillery West Fork Whiskey. I tried one of their signature cocktails, the “Bourbonade” which is made up of West Fork’s “Clancy’s Inc. Barrel,” Grand Marnier and lemonade.
They also have a ton of great drink specials throughout the week including $6 martinis on Mondays, half-price bottles of wine on Tuesdays, and $4 mimosas on Sundays.
Moving on to the appetizers! The Fried Green Tomatoes were recommended so we went with those, and I highly recommend doing the same. They are hand-breaded, fried to crispy to perfection and served with a chipotle ranch. They also have nachos, shrimp cocktail, wings, stuffed mushrooms and a crab dip on the menu that I was eyeing.
For our entrees we tried the Cuban sandwhich and the Meatloaf. The Cuban sandwhich is made up of Tyner Pond Farms pulled pork, shaved ham, Swiss cheese, dijonnaise, pickles and is served on a French hoagie roll.
All of the burgers and sandwiches are served with a side, and you should absolutely try the mac & cheese. To say that the few bites I stole were life-changing may come off as an exaggeration, but assure you it is not. I mean, just LOOK AT IT.
Now I typically wouldn’t go with meatloaf as my top choice of entree, but wow am I so glad I did. Theirs is a housemade blend of beef and pork, red peppers, onion, grainy honey mustard and bacon jam. To be honest, the words “bacon jam” alone will get my attention any day, any time. It was served over mashed potatoes and green beans and was delicious!
Now saying that we “saved room” for dessert is questionable, but we definitely ordered some anyways. I have three words for you: Bourbon. Bread. Pudding.
It’s topped with Graeter’s Vanilla Bean and drizzled with a bourbon caramel sauce. We may have left a little overstuffed, but it was worth it and I have no regrets.
Overall, I was extremely pleased with my experience dining at Grindstone Public House. They serve high quality food at reasonable prices, all while using local ingredients. I definitely plan to come back for family dinners, drinks/appetizers, and half-priced bottles of wine. I also heard they have a brunch menu coming soon, so I can’t wait for that!
