There is nothing I love more than the experience you get from a touring a distillery, so when I first heard about Hard Truth Hills in Nashville, IN I knew I had to check it out! Nashville is located in Brown County and is only about an hour or so from Indy, so it’s the perfect min-getaway!
Hard Truth Hills is a joint effort put on by the owners of Hard Truth Spirits, Quaff On Brewing and Big Woods Restaurants. They’ve got everything from tours, tastings, cocktail classes, to a full on restaurant overlooking the gorgeous 325 acre property. We sampled a few of the Quaff On beers while we waited for our tour to start.
We started out with a tour of the distillery, which included a history of Brown County, spirits and the Big Woods brand. There are a couple different tour options, and we went with the “Delayed Gratification” one. We got a behind-the-scenes look at the distilling process which included a tasting of a couple of their spirits throughout the tour and the rest at the end. Now I am not typically a fan of vodka, but their Cinnamon Vodka is the smoothest I’ve ever tasted. I brought home a bottle for making fall cocktails and it’s delicious!
Next up we took a mixology class! They offer a rum, gin and vodka classes and we ended up doing the gin one. It was a really interactive experience and we learned how to make a few different cocktails. We finished it up with creating our own Gimlet, and even got to take home a souvenir glass!
We finished off our visit with dinner at the Big Woods Restaurant. I was impressed with the selection they offered, and we made sure to try a variety of things. I like to say I consider myself a nacho-connoisseur, and theirs were absolutely delicious! We also tried the shrimp egg-rolls, lamb burger and the mahi-mahi tacos. The real star of the show ended up being dessert! I normally don’t order dessert very often, but the words “Warm Apple Bread” just sounded like the perfect way to kick off fall and it didn’t disappoint.
Overall, I had the most fun time during our little min-getaway to Hard Truth Hills. If you are looking for the perfect way to spend the day and you appreciate good beer and spirits than this is the place for you. I will definitely be back!
