Louisville holds a pretty special place in my heart because we were actually on a trip there when I made the decision to create and launch my blog! When you think of Louisville, the first things that come to mind may be horse racing and bourbon (of course) but the city has so much more to offer. We usually go at least 1-2 times a year and there is still a long list of museums, sites, and distilleries I need to check out. Bonus – it’s only about 2 hours from Indy.
For this most recent weekend getaway we stayed at the Louisville Marriott Downtown! This was our second time staying with them, and you know a place is great when you come back a second time. They completed a huge renovation a few years ago prior to our first stay, and all their hard work really paid off! It is in a great location within walking distance to a lot of the main attractions in the downtown area.
Louisville Marriott Downtown
The moment you walk in the door you’ll be impressed by the lobby design alone. There is a ton of natural light, modern seating areas, and a stunning bar and bourbon cellar right in the center of it all. This is definitely the kind of spot I’d love to enjoy a coffee (or cocktail!) and hang out to start or end a long day. The bourbon cellar can be rented out for private tastings in advance. It is full of a ton of great bottles including a variety of Porch’s single barrel picks.
The Room
Similar to our last visit, we had a spacious room with a king bed that overlooked downtown Louisville. The decor throughout the entire hotel is sleek and modern, and this doesn’t stop short in the guest rooms. Our room included a chaise lounger that overlooked the city, which was perfect for a relaxing coffee break!
Porch Kitchen & Bar
We ended our stay with brunch at the Louisville Marriott’s onsite restaurant, Porch Kitchen & Bar! We absolutely loved the dinner we had here during our last visit, so we were so excited to try out their brunch menu this time. Porch is a very popular spot for comfort food in a modern and elegant space. They have a variety of seating areas including a private dining space. Whenever I’m in Louisville, I always opt for southern food and Porch definitely delivers on that.
Besides having impeccable décor and an inviting ambience, Porch has great food. We started with coffee, grapefruit mimosas, and the Everything Cake Donuts as an appetizer. When I tell you that these cake donuts were life changing I mean it, because we devoured these! They were served with the option to add hot fudge, powdered sugar and sprinkles. We also had the Breakfast Sandwich and Avocado Toast (get an egg on top) and everything was delicious!
Overall, we had a fantastic stay at the Louisville Marriott Downtown! It really is such a great spot to stay when visiting the area, and we will definitely be back.
