Classic Cocktail Recipes with Luxardo

To celebrate Luxardo’s 200th anniversary and over two centuries of cocktails history, they’ve collected some of their favorite recipes from past and present to create the ultimate cocktail recipe book. The digital book features 20 timeless recipes you can make at home using their ingredients.

I have been a huge fan of Luxardo since I first started making cocktails at home a few years ago. One of the first things I learned was that their Maraschino Cherries are the absolute best ones to use, and I always have a jar on hand for making my favorite cocktail: The Manhattan. As they say, a Manhattan without Luxardo’s cherries is not a Manhattan at all. They are also known for their variety of liqueurs and spirits. Odds are you will definitely see these along with their variety of liqueurs on the shelf at any cocktail bar you visit!

I decided to celebrate by trying out some of the classic cocktail recipes from their 200th Anniversary Cocktail Book! I ended up deciding on two of my favorites, and then also one new one I have never had before. I made an Aperitivo Spritz, Manhattan, and an Angel Face, and I’ve shared more about them below! Classic Cocktail Recipes with Luxardo

Aperitivo Spritz

Luxardo Aperitivo’s low alcoholic content and refreshing botanical and citrus flavors make it the perfect companion for Prosecco. This spritz cocktail has gained a lot of popularity in the US over the last couple of years, but it has been enjoyed by Italians for centuries. This bright, refreshing drink is perfect for the summertime, but I personally enjoy sipping on a spritz year round before a meal.

Ingredients

2 oz. Luxardo Aperitivo

3 oz. Prosecco

1 oz. club soda

Orange slice for garnish

Directions

  1. Fill a balloon glass with ice.
  2. Pour in the Luxardo Aperitivo, then Prosecco.
  3. Top with a splash of club soda and an orange slice.

Manhattan

A Manhattan is about as classic as you can get. It’s definitely the first thing that pops into my mind when hearing “classic cocktails” and would be my number one choice if I had to pick one cocktail for the rest of my life. Many say this cocktail dates all the way back to 1870’s New York at least! Enjoying a Manhattan in Manhattan is definitely on my bucket list, but until then I’ll be making them right here at home.

I always make my Manhattan’s with Luxardo Maraschino Cherries, which are one of their most popular products. Here’s a fun fact about maraschino cherries: Their name actually comes from Marasca cherries, a tangy variety from Croatia used to make Maraschino liqueur—a clear cherry liqueur with a unique flavor.

Ingredients

1 ½ oz. bourbon whiskey

1 ½ oz. sweet vermouth

½ tsp. (one small bar spoon) syrup from
Luxardo Original Maraschino Cherries jar

2 dashes Angostura bitters

Luxardo Maraschino Cherry and lemon twist for garnish

Directions

  1. Fill mixing glass with ice cubes.
  2. Add whiskey, vermouth, cherry syrup and bitters to mixing glass and stir.
  3. Strain into a chilled cocktail glass and garnish with a Luxardo Maraschino Cherry.

Angel Face

The third recipe I decided to try out was one that I had never had before, The Angel Face. It is a prohibition-era cocktail, and reminds me of something you could probably order in a speakeasy! It first appeared in Harry Craddock’s 1930 The Savoy Cocktail Book during the height of Prohibition. The use of Lucardo’s Apricot Albicocca Liqueur was what initially piqued my interest in it. It was delicious, and I will definitely be making this one again

Ingredients

1 oz. Luxardo London Dry Gin

1 oz. Luxardo Apricot Albicocca Liqueur

1 oz. Calvados

Lemon twist for garnish

Directions

  1. Stir all ingredients with wet ice or shake in a cocktail shaker.
  2. Strain into a coupe glass, and garnish with a lemon twist.
