Louisville holds such a special place in my heart. Mainly because bourbon does – but also because I was actually on my last trip there when I decided to launch my blog! We recently returned for a little weekend getaway to do some distillery touring and bourbon tasting.
I love visiting Louisville because there truly is SO much to do. I’ve visited three times now, and there is still such a long list of museums, sites, and distilleries I still want to check out! Bonus – it’s only about 2 hours from Indy.
We stayed at the newly renovated Marriott downtown, and I am so glad that we did because our stay was fantastic. They just completed a huge renovation and all their hard work really paid off! It was in a great location and it was walking distance to most of the places we went, or a quick Uber ride as well.
From the moment I walked in the door, I was immediately impressed by the lobby and bar. The tall ceilings allow a lot of natural light in, and there are a variety of seating areas with unique, modern furniture. The bar is fully stocked with every bourbon you could imagine. We stopped by there first thing after checking in for a drink.
Speaking of bourbon, the next thing you notice (and definitely can’t miss!) is their brand new bourbon cellar. This stunning room can be rented out for private tastings in advance.
Our room itself was stunning on its own, and it could not have been a cozier stay! We had a spacious room with a king bed that overlooked downtown Louisville. The decor throughout the entire hotel was a sleek and modern take on glamour, and this didn’t stop short in the guest rooms. We had plenty of room throughout the entire weekend and never felt like we were crowding each other with our luggage.
Our first night in we just had to go try out the restaurant inside the hotel, Porch Kitchen + Bar. I would have chosen to eat here regardless of where we stayed because it was fantastic! Definitely more than what some would consider a hotel restaurant, and it had a variety of great appetizers, drinks, and entrees. The hush puppies and fried chicken were my favorite. To keep on the bourbon theme we tried their Old Fashioned and Manhattan, both delicious! Bonus – just look how cute it is decorated!
We spent the majority of our Saturday touring and tasting our way through some of Louisville’s many distilleries. We stopped by Old Forester, Angel’s Envy, and Evan Williams for a speakeasy/prohibition-style tasting. One of our tour guides also recommended an amazing local BBQ place so we had to grab dinner there of course!
We ended our stay with brunch in our room! The Downtown Louisville Marriott offers an extensive room service menu with a ton of options. We got a fresh pot of coffee, orange juice, eggs, bacon, sausage, toast and of course the lemon-blueberry pancakes. Those were DEFINITELY my favorite part.
Overall, we had a great weekend staying at the Marriott, and we definitely would again. Until next time, Louisville!
