There is nothing I love more than a cozy cabin trip, especially during the fall! Hocking Hills has been at the top of my travel bucket list forever, and we finally made it there recently. It was everything I had envisioned, and with it only being 3.5 hours from Indianapolis it really was the perfect spot for a weekend getaway. We visited in November, and I have also heard it is a great spot for winter and summer hiking as well.
I’ve put together a guide on everything you need to know to plan your trip to Hocking Hills including where to stay, what to do, and of course, where to eat and drink. We already know we will definitely be back!
Hocking Hills Travel Guide
Where To Stay
A cabin of course! I am always down for a cabin trip, and Hocking Hills has a ton of them available. I highly recommend the cabin rental company we used: Cabins by the Caves. They have a variety of options on their site ranging from cabins to lodges, including a ton of pet-friendly ones. We ended up staying at their Blue Moon Cabin, which was the perfect size for us and included an indoor and outdoor fireplace, hottub, and updated kitchen and interior. We were very impressed with how clean everything was, and they even had some smore kits for us which was such a nice touch!
What To Do
There is no shortage of fun things to do in Hocking Hills. We ended up doing zip-lining, hiking, sauna pods, and also fit in some time to relax at the cabin.
Hocking Hills Canopy Tours
We kicked off our weekend with a bang by going zip-lining through the treetops with Hocking Hills Canopy Tours! I’ve been zip-lining quite a few times, but this was Austin’s first time and it was the best experience I’ve had. The instructors were fantastic and helped walk us through the whole process while making it a lot of fun throughout. There are a variety of cables and skybridges with the best views. We had such a great time doing this, and I would definitely book with them again!
Chalets Sauna Pods
The sauna pods were definitely a must-do item on my list! These barrel-shaped, cedar saunas feature a floor to ceiling fisheye window facing out into the trees. Since we were there during the fall foliage the view was even more breathtaking. They seat up to four and can be booked in 1 hour, 2 hour, or full day increments. We were able to drive right up, change in the changing chamber, and then step into the sauna. They even have a bluetooth speaker available to play music. I highly recommend this experience!
Hiking
This one goes without saying, but you definitely have to check out some of the hiking trails while visiting Hocking Hills. We ended up hiking three of the trails in Hocking Hills State Park and were so impressed by all of them. Each one that we did had either a cave or waterfall at the end to explore, and the majority of the trails in Hocking Hills are dog-friendly which was perfect for us. We hiked the Cantwell Cliffs, Rock House, and Cedar Falls trails during our visit.
Where to Eat & Drink
We mixed it up by going out to eat for a couple of meals and picking up takeout to enjoy at the cabin by the fire. The most recommended spot for us to visit when asking around was Hungry Buffalo, and it did not disappoint! We ended up getting dinner there on our first night after a long afternoon of zip-lining. They even had a small shop nextdoor that had some pretty great souvenirs.
I also really enjoyed getting takeout from Millstone BBQ, their pork rolls, ribs, and corn muffins were fantastic. It was the perfect dinner for a night at the cabin!
One of my favorite spots we visited was definitely Hocking Hills Winery! They have an amazing outdoor space, and a great variety of dry and sweet wines. We ended up doing a flight with a sweet treats platter to snack on and even brought a bottle back to the cabin.
We ended up stopping by a local coffee shop that was recommended to us called The Coffee Emporium. They had amazing lattes named after different areas and trails in Hocking Hills, along with a great gift shop section. We brought home the perfect mug as a souvenir from our trip.
If you are really into craft beer like we are, definitely stop by Brewery 33 while you are in town! We stopped in for a flight, and they are even dog friendly!
Overall, we had an absolute blast during our visit to Hocking Hills, and we will definitely be back! For more information on planning your trip to the area, visit www.explorehockinghills.com
