Whiskey Sour with Sipes’ Straight Bourbon Whiskey

The day we have all been waiting for is finally here: Hard Truth Spirits has officially released their Sipes’ Straight Bourbon Whiskey! I’ve been so excited about this release since our first visit to Hard Truth Hills last year for a distillery tour and cocktail making class.

The Sipes’ Straight Bourbon Whiskey is named after Henry Sipes, Brown County’s first known distiller. Hard Truth’s curated, four-year-old straight bourbon whiskey is finished in rum casks for an added, earthy sweetness that is soft, smooth, and rich based on the spirits originally crafted by Sipes. The best part is that it’s made right here in Brown County, Indiana! #DrinkLocal

I stopped by the Big Woods location in Noblesville and was lucky enough to snag one of the bottles signed by their Master Distiller! You can currently pick up your own bottle at Hard Truth Hills, or at any of the Big Woods locations.

After tasting and sipping on it straight (it’s very smooth!) we decided it would be the perfect spirit to celebrate National Whiskey Sour Day with coming up on August 25. Pick up a bottle for yourself, and celebrate this classic cocktail with the recipe below!

Ingredients:

  • 3 oz. Sipes’ Straight Bourbon Whiskey
  • 1 1/2 oz. fresh-squeezed lemon juice
  • 1 1/2 oz. simple syrup
  • 2 cherries and a lemon slice or wedge for garnish
  • Ice
  • Cocktail Shaker

Directions:

  1. Add whiskey, lemon juice and simple syrup to a cocktail shaker over ice
  2. Shake, and strain into a rocks glass over ice
  3. Garnish with cherries and a lemon slice
  4. Enjoy!
