26 Things to do in Indianapolis During the Holidays

Before diving into all the festive fun, let’s take a quick moment to talk about where Indianapolis is located and why it’s such a great spot to include in your holiday travel plans if you aren’t already from the area. Nestled in the heart of the Midwest, Indianapolis is easily accessible from major cities like Chicago, Louisville, and Cincinnati, making it an ideal destination for a quick holiday getaway or a longer stay. Whether you’re traveling by car, train, or plane, you’ll find that the city offers a perfect balance of urban charm and seasonal magic.

In this post, I’ll highlight not only the best events and activities but also give you a sense of how to make the most of your holiday itinerary and time in Indianapolis. So, whether you’re already familiar with the city or it’s on your radar as a potential holiday stop, Indy should definitely be part of your holiday travel plans this year!

Where is Indianapolis

Indianapolis, also known as Indy, is the capital of the state of Indiana. The city’s location in the Midwest means that Indianapolis experiences classic four-season weather, with cold winters that set the stage for a truly festive holiday atmosphere. During the holiday season, you can expect temperatures to hover around the 30s and 40s, with the occasional dip below freezing. Snowfall isn’t guaranteed, but it’s certainly not uncommon, adding that perfect touch of winter charm to the city! This chilly, sometimes snowy weather creates a cozy vibe, making it the perfect backdrop for festive lights, hot cocoa, and all the holiday cheer you can imagine. So whether you’re bundled up for a stroll through downtown or enjoying a heated indoor event, the weather in Indianapolis during the holidays definitely contributes to its winter wonderland appeal!
