Money can’t buy happiness, but it can buy ice cream and that’s pretty much the same thing.
There’s no denying that I enjoy treating myself to a frozen dessert (or three). This especially goes for the summertime! Luckily, Indy has a great selection of ice cream shops to help us survive this heat. I’ve put together a list of some of my favorite places that I’ve visited recently to snag a cool treat.
1. Nicey Treat
Nicey Treat is an adorable little shop in Broad Ripple with a second walk-up location in Fletcher Place. They specialize in all-natural, frozen treats. So think gourmet popsicles, but better. It’s a smaller shop with just two stand-up tables, but it’s only steps from the Monon Trail so the grab-and-go style works perfectly!
They take the term “variety” to a whole new level when it comes to their flavor selections, and as a bonus, they’re displayed on the cutest chalkboard wall! I’ve tried a few of their flavors including Mango Ginger (my favorite), Thai Coffee and Avocado (it’s actually really good – promise!) They also offer to dip any flavor in chocolate, which I definitely recommend trying.
My favorite thing about Nicey Treat though is the amount of dairy-free options they offer. If you notice on the menu, over half of the options are marked with a ‘V’ meaning they’re vegan. When you’re someone who is trying to avoid dairy, frozen dessert shops don’t always have the best choices.
2. Brics
BRICS stands for Broad Ripple Ice Cream Station, and it’s located right on the Monon Trail in the original Broad Ripple Train Station. With their spacious outdoor patio, it’s the perfect spot to enjoy some ice cream on a warm day. They serve scoops in the cutest little cups, which give it that vintage sundae shop feel. Waiters also bring around ice waters while you enjoy your dessert, which is such a nice touch!
They have over 30 flavors to choose from along with a couple dairy-free fruit selections. My absolute favorite (here and everywhere) is their Broad Ripple Blackberry, and let me tell you it is like nothing I’ve had anywhere else!
3. Graeter’s
With how popular Graeter’s is throughout the Midwest, you’ve probably been to one by now. There are a few locations in the central Indiana area including Carmel, Fishers, and Indianapolis. Their popularity isn’t without reason, they’re known for having the creamiest ice cream out there due to its custard base, made from fresh local eggs.
They go beyond the traditional vanilla and chocolate with a variety of unique flavors such as Salted Caramel, Vienna Coffee, and Bourbon Pecan Chocolate Chip. I don’t know about you, but I like my ice cream how I like my drinks – made with bourbon.
The seasonal flavors are always a big hit too. Not too long before it’s fall and we can all enjoy pumpkin ice cream – I’m always willing to try anything pumpkin at least once.
These are just a FEW of my favorite places to grab a cold dessert during the summer. There are so many more great spots around Indy. I’d love to know some of your favorites!
