I kicked off the holiday season with a fun + festive weekend getaway to Delaware County, OH, and couldn’t believe how much there was to do! My goal was to do a lot of our Christmas shopping during this trip, and the area certainly delivered. Delaware County is located approximately twenty minutes north of Downtown Columbus, and a short 2.5 hour drive east from Indianapolis.
In this travel guide you will find details about where to stay, what to do, where to shop, and (of course) where to eat so you can make the most out of your next trip to Delaware County, Ohio.
Delaware County Weekend Getaway
Where To Stay:
We stayed at the Nationwide Hotel & Conference Center, which is a short 10-minute drive from the Polaris Fashion Place. Immediately upon walking in I was so pleased to see a large Christmas tree, lit fireplace, and lobby decked out for the holiday season – it truly felt magical! The rooms were very spacious and the staff was fantastic. The location was in close proximity to many shops, restaurants, and local gems.
What to Do:
Kitchen Social
We kicked off our weekend getaway with brunch at Kitchen Social! Kitchen Social is a trendy restaurant with an upbeat atmosphere and delicious menu located just a few steps away from Polaris Fashion Place. We enjoyed the brunch cocktails including the Mimosa Sampler, which included a variety of juices. For food we had the Cinnabiscuts, Shrimp N’ Grits, and Chicken & Waffles, and I’d definitely recommend try all of those!
Shopping at Polaris Fashion Place
The Polaris Fashion Place mall offers the ultimate shopping experience! It made me so happy to see so many people out and about shopping for the holidays and visiting Santa. This mall truly had it all! Some of our favorite shop we visited were Public Lands, Alter’d State, Dry Goods, Phyllis Ann’s Family Recipe, and Maggie’s Farm and Aromatics.
Candle Pouring at Maggie’s Farm and Aromatics
While at Polaris Fashion Place, we stopped into this Maggie’s Farm and Aromatics to make our own holiday candle and I am so glad we did! They has such a cute shop full of unique candles in every single scent imaginable. I selected the Snickerdoodle scent to pour into this container that matches my Christmas tree decor perfectly! Such a fun experience, and a fantastic gift idea for sure.
Dinner at Nomad
Nomad specializes in truly local ingredients while crafting recipes from all over the planet. We were so impressed by this place from the moment we walked inside. We tried the Japanese Shrimp as an appetizer, and I easily could have ordered another as my main dish – it was THAT good. For our entrees we had Korean Fried Chicken and Venison Osso Buco. Each dish was full of flavor and the portions were very generous. I will definitely be stopping in again the next time I am in the area.
Butch Bando’s Fantasy of Lights
Since we were visiting during the holiday season, we were able to visit a local holiday light show! I’m a fan of anything festive, and Butch Bando’s Fantasy of Lights definitely delivered. We enjoyed the drive through light show after dinner, and it would be the perfect evening activity for the whole family.

Breakfast at The Locust Table
The next morning we headed to breakfast at The Locust Table. This was the perfect spot to fuel up for another day of Christmas shopping. I loved the overall atmosphere here with a self-serve coffee bar and great menu options. We tried a few different coffee roasts, and enjoyed the Huevos Rancheros and Short Ribs on Cheesy Polenta Cakes.
Shopping in Downtown Powell
Downtown Powell in December felt like living in a Christmas movie! It has a nostalgic feel with all the local shops decorated for Christmas. We stopped at quite a few of them including Peachtree Street, Finn & Roe, Cute As A Button, and (of course) the many antique stores around town.
Nocterra Brewing Company
We also stopped by Nocterra Brewing Company, which was the perfect spot to grab a local craft beer in between shopping. They had an extensive draft menu and even had a food truck available outside. I loved all the different ones I tried!
Overall, we had an absolutely amazing trip to Delaware County, OH! It truly was the perfect spot for a weekend getaway that is not too far from Indy. It was such a fun weekend full of Christmas shopping, trying new restaurants, and enjoying some festive things to do in the area. We will definitely be back!
