Honestly, there’s a reason we planned our first big New York City trip for October! The weather was just perfect (cool but not cold) and the leaves were just starting to change. It made the whole experience feel cozy and unforgettable.

Las Vegas might not be your typical fall foliage destination, but it definitely becomes more enjoyable when the temps cool down. Take it from someone who has visited in the summer when it was 105 degrees–go in the fall! September and October are prime for tastings, vineyard tours, and some seriously amazing farm-to-table dining. If you love wine and fall vibes, Napa during harvest is everything.

Fall in Europe is seriously one of my favorite travel seasons. The golden light feels like it was made for picture-perfect moments, the crowds have thinned out, and everything just slows down enough to soak it all in. I have definitely made it a priority to travel here during autumn because the vibe is unbeatable. Plus, I’ve scored some amazing flight deals by going during off-peak seasons!
Whether I’m wandering cobblestone streets, sipping coffee in a cozy café, or exploring grand palaces and sprawling parks, fall brings a romantic and peaceful energy that makes every trip feel extra special. Here are some of the best cities to visit in Europe during the fall:
Amsterdam, The Netherlands
Amsterdam in the fall is truly something special! The air turns crisp, the summer crowds ease up, and the city takes on a calm, peaceful vibe. Trees lining the canals shift to gorgeous shades of orange and gold, making it a perfect backdrop for biking or slow walks. Cozy cafés and world-class museums feel way more inviting without the busy summer rush. The weather is cool but not too cold, perfect for exploring outdoor markets and parks.
We visited in November and it was honestly just right. I loved ducking into warm pubs to cozy up, and even managed to enjoy a canal cruise surrounded by all those beautiful fall colors.
Prague, Czechia
Prague in the fall feels like stepping into a storybook. The city’s gothic architecture, cobblestone streets, and rooftops look even more enchanting framed by autumn leaves. Wander through Old Town Square, cross the Charles Bridge at sunrise, and climb up to Prague Castle for sweeping views of the city draped in fall colors. The crowds thin out after September, and October brings crisp but comfortable weather, which is perfect for exploring on foot. And don’t miss the cozy pubs where you can warm up with a hearty plate of goulash and a cold pint.

Paris in the fall is pure romance with its tree-lined boulevards turning warm shades of yellow and red. We snagged a great deal on flights from the U.S. in November, and hotel prices were surprisingly reasonable too. The cooler temps make strolling neighborhoods like Montmartre and Luxembourg Gardens even more enjoyable. Plus, café terraces become the perfect spot for people-watching with a warm drink in hand. You’ll find fewer tourists than in summer but still plenty of energy on the streets and museums open for exploring. Late September through early November is the sweet spot before the winter chill rolls in.
Copenhagen, Denmark
Copenhagen in autumn is effortlessly cozy. As temperatures drop in October and November, cafés fill with candlelight and locals lean into the season with bike rides, comfort food, and warm drinks. Take a stroll through Tivoli Gardens, which often dresses up for Halloween, or explore the colorful harbor at Nyhavn. The fall foliage in parks like King’s Garden and Frederiksberg Gardens adds a splash of color to the city’s charm. It’s also a great time to enjoy Denmark’s world-class design shops and museums without the summer crowds.
Vienna, Austria
Vienna is elegant no matter the season, but fall brings this quieter, more romantic vibe that you’ll absolutely adore. October is the perfect time to stroll through Stadtpark and soak up those golden autumn tones. And of course, you can’t miss popping into one of Vienna’s legendary coffeehouses for a slice of Sachertorte. The Vienna State Opera kicks off its season in fall, so culture lovers will be in heaven. The weather is mild, the streets are less crowded, and the city’s stunning architecture shines like never before.
Edinburgh, Scotland
Edinburgh is the ultimate cozy autumn city. With its cobblestone streets, centuries-old pubs, and those famously moody skies, it’s perfect for fall vibes. Visit between late September and October for crisp air, colorful leaves in Holyrood Park, and fewer crowds at iconic spots like Edinburgh Castle and the Royal Mile. It’s also a great base if you want to venture out into the breathtaking Scottish Highlands.
Tuscany, Italy
Tuscany in the fall is an absolute feast for the senses. Rolling hills covered in autumn colors and vineyards buzzing with grape harvests make it a dream for wine lovers. This is hands down the best time to enjoy tastings and lively harvest festivals. The weather stays mild and pleasant, so you can explore charming towns like Florence, Siena, and Pisa without the summer crowds. Plus, the seasonal food markets are bursting with fresh finds like truffles and other local delights. Late September through October is the sweet spot to experience Tuscany at its full fall glory.

Underrated Fall Travel Spots
These spots aren’t as well-known but are some of my personal favorite fantastic fall destinations worth discovering:
Hocking Hills, Ohio
Hocking Hills is seriously one of Ohio’s most stunning natural spots, and fall is hands down the best time to visit. We went there last fall with our dogs and had the best time hiking the dog-friendly trails, then warming up in those cozy sauna pods (which are an absolute must). The whole place gets covered in gorgeous fall colors, making it a dream for hikers, nature lovers, and anyone who loves snapping photos.
Spots like Old Man’s Cave, Cedar Falls, and Ash Cave feel even more magical surrounded by vibrant leaves. Plus, the cooler temps make exploring way more comfortable, and there are plenty of cozy cabins around for the perfect weekend escape. Mid to late October is when the colors really pop, so that’s the sweet spot to plan your trip.

Upper Peninsula, Michigan
The Upper Peninsula is one of those hidden gems that totally shines in the fall, and you won’t have to fight crowds to enjoy it.
