Classic Bloody Mary Recipe Using Amazing Hazel’s Bloody Mary Mix

I recently had the chance to try out Amazing Hazel’s Zesty Bloody Mary Mix. Amazing Hazel’s is a local company that began when Dave VanWye started making chili sauce using his grandmother’s famous recipe. After awhile, customers started telling him how great it would be as a Bloody Mary mix. He came up with Amazing Hazel’s Bloody Mary Mix while simultaneously reducing food waste from making their chili sauce.

I’m typically very picking about Bloody Marys since they tend to be too watered down any time I order one at a restaurant. Amazing Hazels’ mix is the total opposite of that and is the perfect base for any Bloody Mary. It’s considered “zesty,” meaning it’s not too spicy but still full of flavor. My favorite thing about the mix is definitely that it’s made with fresh ginger, which in my opinion is a GAME CHANGER for pre-made mixes. I was so impressed with how delicious this mix was to the point that I was thinking of how good it would be by itself just to dip grilled cheese in!

I’m going to walk you through step by step on how I made a classic Bloody Mary using the mix including what you’ll need, topping options and more.

When it comes to the ingredients of a Bloody Mary, there really are only two required ones: mix and vodka. The rest is all up to you! I prefer to choose a local vodka, such as Hotel Tango’s. The toppings are where things get interesting. Some people like to go crazy and add chicken tenders, sliders on a stick or entire pizzas to theirs. Search “crazy Bloody Mary toppings” and you’ll see what I mean!

I loaded mine up with turkey bacon, celery, stuffed olives, cheese, sausage and a spicy sea salt for the rim.

Ingredients:

  • Amazing Hazel’s Zesty Bloody Mary Mix
  • Vodka

Optional Toppings:

  • Celery
  • Bacon
  • Cheese Cubes
  • Olives
  • Carrot Sticks
  • Sausage
  • Cucumber Spear
  • Cherry Tomatoes
  • Hard Boiled Eggs
  • Jalapeños
  • Lime Wedge
  • Pickle
  • Salt for the rim
  • + More!

Now, on to how to make one. To start out you’ll want to salt the rim of a chilled glass. Pour you salt on to a small place, moisten the rim of a chilled glass and dip it into the salt. Then add some ice to the glass.

Next you’ll want to add the vodka and mix. You can use however much vodka you prefer, but for the size of glass I was using I poured around 1.5-2 oz. You can either use a cocktail shaker to mix them, or just add both to the glass over ice and give it a good stir.

Once that’s done it’s time to add the toppings! I used kabob picks to add mine to the glass. The best part is being able to dip them in it easily, so those or toothpicks should work fine.

Now all that’s left to do is drink up and enjoy! I was pretty pleased with how my Bloody Mary turned out. It’s such a simple drink to make to begin with, and the Amazing Hazel’s mix makes it even easier. I could definitely see this mix being the perfect addition to any brunch lineup. A Bloody Mary bar is always a good idea, especially paired with a mimosa bar at events such a bridal showers, tailgates, or just for fun at home.

    1. Hi Tammy! Thanks for reading, here is their official list of retail locations: https://amazinghazels.com/retailer-locations/

It looks like the Bloody Mary mix is currently sold at A Taste of Indiana, a really cool shop on the Northside of Indy that carries local products. The product is fairly new, I would recommend reaching out to Amazing Hazels on their social media pages to inquire about shipping there. Thanks!
